A morning known around the world
On 1 January, the Golden Hall becomes Vienna's most closely watched room. The Vienna Philharmonic plays Strauss while millions listen elsewhere. Inside, the scale is intimate: flowers, gilded balconies and the particular hush before the first note.
Planning beyond the ticket
Attendance is governed by an official drawing and highly limited availability. A considered New Year stay therefore begins with the whole city: the right suite, New Year's Eve dinner, a car timed for the Musikverein and an elegant alternative programme if concert access is unavailable.
The city afterwards
When the final Radetzky March ends, Vienna is still almost empty. Lunch in the first district, a walk through the Burggarten and a quiet afternoon in a grand hotel make the first day of the year feel suspended in time.
